about
I’m in the Band is a cross-collaboration between two LA bands, the post pop outfit Sun Kin and comedic punk band GUPPY. In this instance, they are one and the same.
Expressing yourself through music can be a vulnerable, embarrassing affair, full of awkward moments and cringey interactions. But there's nothing like the purpose it gives, the relief of pressure on those who love us. When you pretend people give a shit, it's like they do.
lyrics
The bouncer asks you
What you’re doing there
Hands full of gear on the loading dock
Filled up with beer and intrusive thoughts
“Oh, sorry, I’m in the band”
In my defense
It’s so easy to feel as if
No one can see you
But I’ll pretend
That you can still see me
Cuz that makes it easy
On you
And me too
Or just you
We don’t need a crowd to cheer
Or boo
You show up early
Or maybe late
Nobody’s in the green room or on the stage
Someone’s in the bathroom
You walk through the door and say
“Oh, sorry, I’m in the band”
In my defense
It’s so easy to feel as if
No one can see you
But I’ll pretend
That you can still see me
Cuz that makes it easy
On you
It’s so easy to feel as if
No one can see you
But I’ll pretend
That you can still see me
Cuz that makes it easy
On you
And me too
Or just you
We don’t need a crowd to cheer

OMG, I’ve never heard an Oceanator song before this, and now I don’t know how I’ve lived this long without it. Fun, catchy, and full of energy. Can’t wait to hear more! Kirk Gauthier
